Cape Breton Fall 2026
Photography Workshop

Details
Oct 18-23, 2026
5 Nights
Join me for a photography adventure in Cape Breton, Nova Scotia, Canada during peak fall colors! Cape Breton is a magical place in the fall, with foliage covered mountains meeting the ocean, valleys of orange and red leaves, and beautiful waterfalls. We will tour the famous Cabot Trail along the coast and through the mountains of the Cape Breton Highlands National Park.
Why tour Cape Breton with me? I've been going there for 10 years and know the best views, waterfalls, and off the beaten path gems.
With a max of only 5 students, this is an intimate workshop with lots of my time available to you!
Lodging, travel, and meals are not included. I will be happy to help you figure out lodging as I have places in mind.
This workshop is scheduled during normal peak fall colors around the Cabot Trail.
This is not a night photography focused workshop. The Milky Way core will be below the horizon for this workshop. We may still do some night photos but the main focus is fall foliage.
Bring camera gear for everything from super wide angle landscapes to long telephoto intimate landscapes and wildlife. If you have a drone this is a great trip for it, there are beautiful spots outside of the National Park. Make sure to follow all Canadian drone laws.
Bring clothing appropriate for weather from freezing to 80F, rain, and high winds.
Due to Canadian labor laws I am not able to accept Canadian citizens on this workshop.

Schedule
- Oct 18-20 (3 nights): West Side of Cabot Trail — based out of Cheticamp
- Oct 21-23 (2 nights): East Side of Cabot Trail — based out of Ingonish
- Oct 18: Cheticamp — 1pm meet & greet (location TBD), lodging check-in, sunset photography, dinner
- Oct 19-20: Photography and exploring
- Oct 21: Sunrise photos, drive over to Ingonish on the east side of the Cabot Trail (roughly 1 hour 45 min drive) plus lots of stops for photography, lodging check-in, sunset
- Oct 22: Photography and exploring
- Oct 23: Sunrise and end of workshop

Physical Difficulty
Moderate hiking on wooded and coastal trails with steep sections, hills, exposed rocks, roots, and loose rock beaches.
Plan for hiking between 1-4 miles each day as we explore views and waterfalls. Some days will have very little hiking. There are plenty of roadside views, so you could opt out of the longer hikes if you aren't able to do them.
The longest hike will be a hike out the Skyline Trail for the famous view of the Cabot Trail winding along the highlands at the edge of the ocean. See the photo immediately above this section for that view. This hike is about 2 miles each way, 4 miles total. It takes about 45 minutes each way. Easy hike, fairly flat, gentle downhill on the way out.
Please advise me of any mobility issues.
